A student of yoga since 1997, my personal journey along the path of yoga began as a way to overcome chronic back pain. I quickly realized that my yoga practice was not only benefiting me physically, but also emotionally and spiritually. As a teacher of adult literacy and English as a second language for more than 30 years, it felt only natural that I combine my love of teaching with my passion for yoga.
I hold a 350-hour Yoga Teacher Certificate (RYT-200), graduating from the EWYT program in early 2006. Always continuing my studies, I have taken many additional courses including back care yoga, yoga for breast health, yoga for children, pre-natal yoga, yoga for older adults, and restorative yoga.
My classes are taught in the classical Hatha tradition, focusing on a blend of postures, conscious breathing, and meditation - to relax, rejuvenate and enhance mind/body awareness. With my gentle yet encouraging teaching style, I strive to create a safe and non-threatening atmosphere that honours each person’s background and abilities.
“It has been a great pleasure to be in your class. I loved the serene and peaceful atmosphere you created and I particularly appreciated that you offered exercises with varying degrees of difficulties. Depending on our day or our abilities, we were able to go for more challenging poses if we wanted to! I am sad to see the program end and even adder to see you go. I will miss you.” ~ C.C.
“Lesley was my first yoga teacher and has taught me for several years now. She is an amazing instructor for all levels of students. She is able to draw out our inner strengths while simultaneously helping us to truly relax. Her classes are the best thing I have ever done for myself. I could not recommend her more highly!” ~ Susan A.
“Lesley’s yoga classes are fun, relaxing, educational, and challenging all at once. Whether in a studio space or a church basement, Lesley brings a warmth and professionalism to any class she teaches.“ ~ K.K.
“I will miss your classes and will have to work hard to find another equally good class. I found your classes to be a very well-balanced, full body work out while still being very peaceful and meditative. That's a good combination!” ~ Janet N.
Of all women I know you are certainly the most fit. I feel you own special skills as a yoga teacher: you listen, you have empathy and you understand your body. Thank you. ~ I.C.
“We all miss you, not just our stiffening up bodies but our minds as well – you have such wonderful, calming energy.”
~ Ruth G.
"I've been doing yoga with Lesley for nearly 2 years now. I couldn't imagine going to another yoga instructor! She has such a calming and peaceful voice which makes you feel so relaxed during class. She does give you a good workout and knows how far to push you to the best of your abilities. I highly recommend Lesley to be your yoga teacher, you won't regret it!"
